Iran has leveled accusations against Qatar, claiming it is hindering the investigation into the disappearance of three Iranian pilots amid recent conflict. Tehran maintains that these pilots vanished during a confrontation, but Qatar has firmly denied any involvement or detention of the individuals in question.
According to Iranian armed forces official Mohammad Bagherzadeh, an expert team from the Iranian Air Force has been awaiting permission to enter Qatar for months in order to pursue their investigation. Bagherzadeh has made a public appeal to Doha to grant the necessary access for the team to proceed. Additionally, he has called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene and facilitate progress in the inquiry.
Tehran has previously confirmed that it retrieved the body of pilot Majid Kazemi, who lost his life during an attack that involved the US Al Udeid Air Base based in Qatar. In response to the allegations, Majed al-Ansari, a spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, categorically denied that any Iranian pilots are being detained. He explained that Qatar had initially contacted the pilots after they reportedly breached Qatari airspace. When communications failed, Qatar took defensive actions.
Qatar asserts that it has actively engaged in search and rescue operations to find the missing pilots and recover any remains. The Qatari government also mentioned coordinating with Iran over the transfer of the remains of one pilot who was located. Despite these efforts, Qatar claims that Iranian officials have yet to respond to an invitation extended in April, which was intended to provide them with detailed information about the search operations conducted by Qatar.
