Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni marked a historic milestone by becoming the longest-serving leader in the history of the Italian Republic, reaching 1,413 days in office. Speaking at a rally hosted by her Brothers of Italy (FdI) party in Bari, Meloni emphasized that her government continues to hold stronger public support than when it first began its term. She highlighted that this achievement is not merely about longevity in office but reflects sustained public backing and the effective pursuit of her political objectives.
Meloni underscored political stability as her administration’s primary reform, asserting that it has bolstered Italy’s capacity to negotiate on the international stage and protect its interests. Despite the challenges of governance, which she described as feeling like “swimming in glue” at times, Meloni affirmed her commitment to her role, stating she has never contemplated stepping down from her position.
Throughout her tenure, Meloni has navigated a series of significant challenges, including geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz, high fuel prices, natural disasters, terrorism, and issues related to youth crime. She attributed her government’s resolve and continued public confidence to their handling of these complex issues.
Financial discipline has been another cornerstone of Meloni’s administration. She criticized previous governments for harming Italy’s public finances through initiatives like the Superbonus, which she argued were detrimental. Meloni urged her team to maintain their momentum and cautioned political opponents that efforts to obstruct her government would not prevail.
