Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has been congratulated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after her government set a new record as the longest continuously serving administration in the Italian Republic’s history. Meloni’s government reached a milestone of 1,413 consecutive days in office, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days set by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second government from 2001 to 2005.
Erdoğan praised Meloni’s leadership and expressed optimism about the future of Turkish-Italian relations, emphasizing the potential for continued cooperation and solidarity between the two nations. Since becoming Italy’s first female prime minister in October 2022, Meloni has established a strong rapport with Erdoğan, maintaining regular discussions on various bilateral and regional issues.
The partnership between Türkiye and Italy has grown across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. Both countries have actively coordinated on regional matters, particularly concerning Libya and Ukraine. A significant development in their collaboration was the co-chairing of the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in Rome in April 2025, where several agreements were signed to bolster their strategic and economic ties.
Most recently, Meloni and Erdoğan met on the sidelines of the NATO summit held in Ankara in July. During this meeting, they reaffirmed their plans to enhance trade, boost mutual investment, and deepen cooperation in defense and other key strategic areas. This ongoing dialogue underscores the commitment of both leaders to strengthen the bilateral relationship further.
