Finnish President Alexander Stubb has commenced a two-day state visit to Luxembourg, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing European issues. The visit began on Tuesday with a ceremonial welcome for President Stubb and his wife outside the Grand Ducal Palace, where they were received with military honours.
Following the welcoming ceremony, the Finnish presidential couple met with Luxembourg’s Grand Ducal couple and paid tribute to those who died in service by laying a wreath at the eternal flame. The visit includes scheduled meetings with key Luxembourg officials, including President of the Chamber of Deputies Claude Wiseler, Prime Minister Luc Frieden, and Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel. These discussions are expected to center on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing current European affairs.
The itinerary also highlights Finland and Luxembourg’s cooperation within European institutions, with visits planned to the European Investment Bank and the European Court of Justice. These visits underscore the collaborative efforts between the two countries in the European context.
On the second day of the visit, President Stubb is slated to visit the University of Luxembourg’s Belval campus and the SES headquarters in Betzdorf. These engagements aim to emphasize academic and economic collaboration between Finland and Luxembourg, further solidifying the partnership between the two nations.
