Fuel prices in Italy have seen another rise, with both petrol and diesel costs increasing at self-service stations nationwide. The average price of unleaded petrol climbed to €2.143 per litre, slightly up from €2.132 the previous day. Diesel prices also experienced a hike, now standing at €2.266 per litre compared to €2.246 previously.
In response to the persistent elevation in fuel prices, the Italian government has extended a reduction in diesel excise duties, a measure aimed at mitigating the financial burden on consumers. This tax reduction initiative will offer a discount of 12.2 cents per litre from September 18 to 25. The relief will continue, albeit at a reduced rate of 6.1 cents per litre, from September 26 through October 5.
The decision to prolong the excise duty reduction comes amid growing concerns over the impact of high fuel costs on the economy and household budgets. By easing the excise duties, the government hopes to provide some relief to drivers and transport businesses facing increased operational costs.
