In a significant leadership shift, Sir Demis Hassabis is stepping down as chief executive of Google DeepMind, a pivotal move as the AI research unit restructures its management. Hassabis, who has been at the helm since co-founding DeepMind in 2010, will transition to the role of chair and assume a new position as chief scientist at Alphabet, the parent company of Google. Taking over the leadership of DeepMind is Koray Kavukcuoglu, the current chief technology officer, who will assume the role with the title of senior vice-president.
