France and Luxembourg are bracing for their fourth significant heatwave of the summer, as a surge in temperatures is forecast to begin on July 28 and persist into early August. The heatwave is anticipated to initiate in southwestern France, gradually spreading across the majority of the country. In certain areas, the mercury is expected to soar to 40–41°C, with many regions likely experiencing daytime highs ranging between 35°C and 38°C. Nighttime temperatures are also predicted to remain above 20°C in several localities, offering scant relief from the sweltering conditions.
As the heatwave progresses, Luxembourg will also experience a sharp rise in temperatures following a relatively cooler start to the week. By Wednesday and Thursday, highs in Luxembourg are anticipated to reach 33–36°C, with predominantly clear skies prevailing.
Weather experts caution that this extended period of high temperatures could persist into early August, exacerbating existing drought conditions and increasing the risk of wildfires across the affected regions.
